Here's the Deal...
Ok, here's the deal.
We are a Hurricane Katrina Family.
You can read my Hurricane Katrina Journal here. Be sure to subscribe if you want to read as it is posted here at PNN.
There's 8 of us living in this 3 bedroom trailer,
We are very thankful there are 2 bathrooms!
I'm doing the best to get me and my two children our own place again.
Things are still rough, for many Hurricane Katrina Survivers. Our family is one of them. Resources out here in this part of the country where we live are either nil or we have to travel a great distance in hopes of getting help. Other's were worse off than we, I hated to ask when I knew there were so many others. So I didn't, not really, like I said, it's a long ways just to talk to someone. And gas was outrageous, still is for that matter.
I'm a single mom, working at home online, I'm a freelancer.
I'm no longer able to stand to work for hours on end without being in continual, pain. So I write.
If you like my work, and feel to do so. Please click the donation box.
If not for me, for the kids.
I hate to ask, but, well that's the way life is for us right now, till I can get us our own place again.
Thanks for reading, I do appreciate it, even without a donation, since I just want to express myself and be heard.
Anyway, now you know.
We are Here, We will survive!
Thanks!
I got shot by the FBI!
I got shot by the FBI!
I have to share this with someone, it may as well be you.
This is a song that my 7 year old went to singing just out of the blue.
I thought it was cute.
She's always coming up with something funny like this when singing.
Wonderful imagination!
What do you think?
I got shot by the FBI, because I was about to die for a hot wing and they wanted me to try the barbequed ribs. I’m flying down the highway on my Harley trying to get away from the pigs. I got shot by the FBI, because I was starving slap to death. How should I know that in the town of Faranlow, it is sin to order or eat hot wings? I think you should know that you don’t want to go to the southern little town of Faranlow, since the one of the big guys in the FBI must be married to the 1960 BBQ rib queen of Getyerass County.
You know all I wanted to do was stop and drain the lily. When I came across that little bar and grill. On the way to mama’s house on the other side of the hill. It’s been a long time since I’ve been home and I wanted to surprise her. There’s many things I want to say and do with my dear mama. Life’s been hard for both of us and time is swiftly getting shorter. I’m not perfect, well who is? We all do the best we know to do. I want my mama to know I love her before this song is through.

My Dearest Mother,
My Dearest Mother,
My Dearest Mother,
I can only attempt to express the love I have known from you.
I can only attempt to do for you the many things you have done for me.
I can only call you mother so many times, until one day I find myself calling you by your name.
I can only call you blessed, as you are an angel to me.
You have always been here for me, and I adore you like no other.
I am very thankful I followed your light, and honored to call you, Mother.
Your voice is home; your smile is always welcome.
I am thankful you held me, and talked with me, helped me to grow into the person I am today.
I look in your eyes, and I see you , see me, in your eyes, as I see my brother’s and sister’s in your eyes as well, and realize you know exactly what I’m looking at, as I hug you to me.
Your letting us, your children be ourselves, while guiding us along, has turned up some interesting lives.
When there was hardly any food, you would make sure we ate first, when there was bitter cold, you would make us a fire, and gather us within reach.
By teaching us to be honest, and hardworking, expecting us to do our best, and wanting only that which would help us be happy, you’ve shown the perfect marks for motherhood, and deserve your royal robe, in that sorority.
I make myself start, by a comment I have made that truly sounds just like you, most times I snicker, other times it causes my eyebrow to arch.
It causes me to wonder, to feel that I am in the skin of my maternal ancestry, to know that there are roots, ties that bind, thru time, and eternity.
I am thankful for my place here within your world, I am in awe of the woman you are, and I can only attempt to be the woman you see in me.
I love you dear mother.

A Tale of the Grandmother
A Tale of the Grandmother
It was a cold dreary wet foggy night. The wind ran screaming through the night above the treetops, as the air below them was so eerier in stillness amid the banks of fog. We see a small girl running. She is dressed in her crinolines and pinafore. Pretty thing she is, with big blue eyes and her hair billowing out behind her as she runs. Although her prettiness does not hide, the fright that fevers through her big blue eyes and on her entire face.
She runs though the woods, dodging the trees as she goes. She feels the threat getting closer and closer to her as she runs. As though there is some type of hot breath rushing her on, daring her not to dare stop or to turn around and face the thing she feels coming down upon her.
With her, she carries a basket filled with sugar, eggs and flour. Her grandmother has sent her out to buy these things from the grocer, although it was late. She was the oldest, big enough to run to the grocers and back. She had run errands before. Only before, it was never so late. Everyone knew to be inside by the time darkness falls. Everyone knew what happened to those who found themselves outside after darkness falls.
She was afraid, of course. Who could blame her with all the horrifying stories being overheard from the adults? So many men already found, or pieces of them found. Sometimes all that was found was a small bit of cloth or something that was being carried with them at the time. Eaten, that is what the adults have been saying. People were being eaten at night while outside after darkness falls.
Oh, why oh why did grandmother send me out so late? Ran through her mind, as she ran for her life. Beads of sweat beginning to chill her to the bone as she ran through the banks of fog. As she ran, she would trip and fall as her little feet would be caught in the briars and brambles. Branches tearing at her hair, slapping her in the face as she ran. Doing her best to make sure her family had food as she had been sent to do.
Grandmother, oh, grandmother, how could you send me outside when the darkness if soon to fall? Haven’t I done all the things you have asked of me? So cruel you have been all the days I have known you. Always the faithful child who came at your beckoning call. Why have you sent me into the night as the darkness falls? Her mind screamed within her step by fevered step as she ran for the only safety she knew. Back into the arms of her grandmother.
Have you seen any movies this weekend?

Stephanie Partridge is a very special lady. Kind hearted and very, very smart in my opinion.
She happened to be a Katrina Survivor too. We met when she came into a Hurricane Katrina group and then made the offer of taking two writers under her wing to train. After taking a test.
I wrote an article up for her and ask if I could take the test now, and she told me there was no need too, she could tell I wrote very well. (thank goodness for spell check, huh?) LOL!
Any way, try those links and if you ever find the site down, she's updating, just try back again the next day or two.
By the way, if you would like to read some of my writing, go here.
My favorite are the Pearl and Emerald articles.
I worked very hard wordsmithing those, unfortunately, they never paid, which is very bad business.
So, I'm not advising a purchase from them, just go read.
Oh and any typos you may find there are not mine, they added those before posting the articles to their site.
I have the originals stored away on file as well as the original emails where they from when they were first sent, which will predate their posting them to their site.
